All in One

In the preceding part of the series, we talked about the significant bundling opportunities the DIRECTV (DTV) merger brings to AT&T (T). These openings are due in large part to non-overlapping services offered by AT&T and DIRECTV individually. Since the merger, AT&T has already extended bundled video and wireless offerings, such as its All in One Plan. According to the company’s recent press release, AT&T’s All in One plan offerings aim to deliver “the first-ever nationwide package of TV and wireless services—all from a single provider on one bill, with special discounts—beginning August 10.” We should note here that the DIRECTV merger was completed on July 24, 2015.

The press release also mentioned that the offer includes “HD and DVR service for up to four TV receivers, unlimited talk and text for four wireless lines, and 10GB of shareable wireless data—all for $200* per month, an annual savings of $600 or more in the first 12 months.”

According to the company, All in One is being offered to DIRECTV customers, as well as to those of AT&T U-verse—and in 21 states. Similar to Verizon Communication’s (VZ) FiOS, U-verse is a fiber-based voice, video, and internet service comparable to the cable offerings of big industry players like Comcast Corporation (CMCSA) and Time Warner Cable (TWC).

“All Included” plans

According to the company, AT&T has started “All Included” pricing for high-speed internet in both U-verse’s and DIRECTV’s video offerings.

You may consider taking a diversified exposure to AT&T while diversifying risk by investing in the iShares MSCI USA Minimum Volatility ETF (USMV), or in the iShares Russell 1000 Growth ETF (IWF).

USMV held ~1.7% in the telecom company as of July 31, 2015. AT&T made up ~0.3% of IWF’s holdings on the same date.
